Arkema S.A. (ARKAY - Free Report) has announced the inauguration of a next-generation acrylic acid purification unit at its Carling site in France, strengthening its competitive position in Europe’s market while advancing decarbonization. The nearly 150 million Euro investment is one of the company’s largest industrial projects in France and contributes to its ambitious climate investment program.

The new unit improves the energy efficiency of the purification process by 25% and reduces the carbon intensity of the Carling site by 20%. Its innovative technology also optimizes resource and waste management while significantly lowering solvent consumption. These improvements enhance efficiency to reinforce Arkema’s position in the low-carbon acrylic materials market.

The Carling facility is a leading acrylic production site, manufacturing acrylic monomers used in performance coatings, adhesives, water treatment and other advanced materials. The project, decided in 2023, received partial funding from the French State under the France 2030 program, operated by ADEME, and from the European Union’s NextGenerationEU initiative.

The cumulative investments could reach €400 million over 2022-2030, under the company’s decarbonization plans, while making its industrial hubs the driving forces of future. Arkema’s investment also aligns with its strategy to strengthen its Specialty Materials segment and its increasing focus on reducing emissions across the industry.
